BELFAST - DIVIDED CITY (1983)

Although the violence has subsided, tension in Belfast is still very high. Any small incident or even rumor might lead to yet another confrontation. KRESTI PRISON - SANKT PETERSBURG

Kresti Prison in Sankt Petersburg is more than 120 years old. It entered
world history during the October Revolution in 1917, when insurgents
stormed the prison and freed its 2.400 prisoners. Now the old and derelict building houses 7.500 inmates.
More than 1.000 of them suffer from tuberculosis and 1.400 are HIV infected. Two separate departments house 450 prisoners with mental problems. The tremendous overpopulation reduces living space to 1 square meter.

South Ossetia and Abkhasia, with the support of Russia and Chechen volunteers, broke away from Georgia in yet another bloody civil war. 250.000 Georgians were ethnically cleansed, living desperate lives in the capital Tblisi.
